How to Cook Up Fall Feasts with Minimal Effort

If there’s one thing a busy mom needs to know, it’s how to get a quick but satisfying meal on the table. Bonus points if the prep work is minimal and the cleanup is light.

While summertime is typically associated with light meals and easy-to-prep ingredients, fall brings on a bounty that inspires crave-worthy, rich feasts. I used to associate heartier meals with greater effort, but, thanks to Walmart’s affordable and vast range of ingredients along with their convenient grocery pickup and delivery services, my family can enjoy the feasts of fall every night.

One of our favorites is my take on Chicken Parmesan cooked in Prego Pasta Sauce. Since it uses only five main ingredients, prep takes less than five minutes, giving you more time with your family. Here are my tips on keeping it easy.

Incorporate Vegetables without Hassle

Instead of using pasta as the base of this dish, I love the pre-cut frozen zoodles available at Walmart. It saves me the hassle of peeling and prepping vegetables, while still allowing my family to get the nutrition they need.

Embrace the Pre-Prepped Selections

Walmart has pre-packaged chicken breasts are thin cut, for more even cooking. Since they’re individually vacuum sealed, you save the risk of freezer burn if you want to store the leftover chicken portions.

Opting for pre-sliced Great Value Provolone Cheese and shredded Great Value Italian Style Cheese will also cut down on prep and cleanup time.

Start with an Excellent Base and Get Creative

While Prego Pasta Sauce is rich and comforting on its own, there are many ways to add a personal touch. I like to pour in a quarter of a cup of red wine to enhance the flavor profile of the sauce, giving it a richer finish. You can also incorporate shredded Parmesan cheese or even a leftover Parmesan rind to add salty and umami undertones to the sauce. Sprinklingin a tablespoon of chili pepper flakes is a great way to add some subtle heat.

Got leftovers? The Prego Pasta Sauce is ideal for meatball sandwiches. Prefer another round of pasta? Add a frozen vegetable medley, like Great Value California Style Vegetable Mix, to make hearty vegan pasta sauce for less than $3.50; add it to roasted spaghetti squash for an easy, wholesome lunch option.

Embrace the Extra Time to Be with Your Kids

As a mom, I use the cooking process as a way to bond with and also teach my daughter. She’s been watching me cook dinners in the kitchen since she was a toddler. Now that she’s in school, she’s more involved in the cooking process. We use the time normally spent prepping and cleaning to talk about her day and form a closer connection as a family.

Keep kids interested in cooking by getting them their own cooking accessories, like an apron or a kid-safe knife set. Walmart has a great variety of items you can order online.
