Luckily, something as simple (and productive) as getting a meal on the table can be a fun family activity. Discover four kid-friendly recipes that are easy to whip up with your chef-in-training thanks to Walmart. Stuffed French Toast

French toast is great, but stuffed French toast is even better. Take your breakfast game to the next level with this delicious recipe and encourage your little one to jump in on the action.

Ingredients:

  • 8 slices oatnut bread
  • ½ (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup seedless raspberry jam
  • 5 eggs, beaten
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 ½ teaspoons almond extract
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Directions:

Step 1

Spread four slices of oatnut bread with cream cheese on one side. Spread remaining four slices with raspberry jam on one side. Press cream cheese slices and jam slices together, forming sandwiches.

Step 2

In a medium, shallow bowl, beat together the eggs, milk, and almond extract.

Step 3

Melt butter in a large, heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Dip sandwiches in the egg mixture to coat. Place in the skillet and cook on both sides until golden brown.

Turkey Pinwheels

This lunchtime classic is fun for kids to make and eat. Plus, there’s plenty of ways to customize pinwheels, so the whole family can enjoy them.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup jarred chutney
  • 6 burrito-size flour tortillas
  • 12 lettuce leaves
  • 1 pound thin-sliced smoked turkey
  • 1 seedless cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 3-4 tomatoes, thinly sliced
  • Black pepper to taste

Directions:

Step 1

Mix cream cheese and chutney in a blender or food processor until smooth. Add pepper to taste.

Step 2

Spread a thin layer of cream cheese to the edges of each tortilla. Top with two lettuce leaves. Divide sliced turkey among the tortillas and layer with cucumber and tomato.

Step 3

Tightly roll up the tortillas, wrap them in damp paper towels, and refrigerate several hours. To serve, cut each roll-up into five pieces.

Shrimp Nachos

Put a better-for-you twist on nacho night and encourage your little one to try new foods with this recipe, which swaps meat for shrimp.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (14.5 ounce) package tortilla chips, or to taste
  • 2 pounds shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1 ½ pounds large peeled and deveined cooked shrimp, tails removed and shrimp quartered
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 4 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, chopped
  • ½ cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • ¼ cup dried minced onion
  • 1 ½ tablespoons ground cumin
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

Directions:

Step 1

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.

Step 2

Spread tortilla chips onto the prepared baking sheet.

Step 3

Mix Monterey Jack cheese, shrimp, mayonnaise, chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, cilantro, minced onion, cumin, and black pepper together in a bowl. Spoon mixture onto the tortilla chips.

Step 4

Bake in the preheated oven for three minutes. Turn on the broiler and broil nachos until lightly browned, three to four minutes. Allow nachos to sit at room temperature for about two minutes before serving.

Pizza

Upgrade your next pizza night by making your kiddo’s favorite DIY pie with them. Use this classic recipe as a starting point and let your little one have creative freedom with the toppings!

Ingredients:

  • 1 tube (18.8 ounces) refrigerated pizza dough
  • ½ (12 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil, crushed
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, or more to taste
  • Toppings such as pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, and onions

Directions:

Step 1

Heat oven to 400° F. Coat a large baking sheet with nonstick spray.

Step 2

While the oven preheats, combine all sauce ingredients with ½ cup water in a medium bowl and set aside for flavors to develop while preparing the crust.

Step 3

Remove pizza dough and place on baking sheet. Stretch into a 15x12-inch rectangle. Fold over the edges and press to form a 1-inch lip. Bake at 400° for 10 minutes and then remove.

Step 4

Spread sauce on top of crust, then sprinkle with cheese and other desired toppings. Bake at 400° for 12 minutes or until cheese is melted and lightly browned. Cut into 12 squares and serve.
