8 Tips for Boosting the
Flavor of Any Grilled Dish

Want to make everything you cook on an outdoor grill more delicious? We’ve got no-sweat solutions that will have family and guests asking for your secret recipe!

When the temperature soars, the last thing you want to do is turn on your oven or stove. Instead, just head outside and fire up the grill! Whether you’re on Team Charcoal or Gas Grill, we’ve got ways to get the most out of your backyard barbecue.

Don’t skimp on seasonings.

For better burgers, use 2 to 4 teaspoons per pound of Weber Classic BBQ seasonings with ground beef, turkey or chicken. Experiment with different flavors, from a classic like Weber Gourmet Burger Seasoning—a balanced blend of garlic, onion and pepper—to the zingy Weber Bold ‘N Spicy Chipotle Seasoning. SERVING SUGGESTION: The perfect accompaniment to any burger? B&M Baked Beans!

Discover a shortcut to great smoky flavor.

If grilled steak is on your dinner menu, add just a few drops of the highly concentrated Wright’s Liquid Smoke to impart a depth of flavor that rivals the proteins at your favorite steakhouse. It works equally well on ribs, chicken or fish. Even dessert favorites like s’mores get an unexpected upgrade with a subtle hint of smoke.

Cut your veggies strategically.

To give them maximum exposure to the grill, quarter onions and peppers and slice zucchini or eggplants lengthwise. Before grilling, toss veggies with olive oil and sprinkle liberally with either Weber Roasted Garlic & Herb Seasoning or Weber Veggie Grill Seasoning. And don’t forget the corn on the cob! Grill it in foil or in the husk (with outermost layers trimmed) for about 15 minutes, turning every five. Carefully peel away the husk, shake on Weber Garlic Parmesan Seasoning, and serve.

Cut through the fat.

Want to maximize the flavor of your barbecued ribs? Season them twice. Before cooking, apply about 2 tablespoons per pound of a rub, such as Weber KC BBQ Rub, Weber Chili Lime Rub or Weber Sriracha Rub. Aim for an even layer of all-over cover. Then, during the last 10 minutes of grilling, slather on barbecue sauce for a crusty, caramelized glaze. Weber Sweet & Thick Honey BBQ Sauce infuses your meat with deeply sweet, smoky flavor, while Weber Bold & Thick Sweet ‘N Spicy BBQ Sauce adds extra kick, thanks to a mix of red, ancho and chipotle chili peppers.

Prep your poultry.

The trick to grilled chicken that’s juicy, tasty and evenly cooked? Pound chicken breasts or thighs to an even thickness. For each pound of chicken, combine 1/3 cup of oil, a few tablespoons of lemon or lime juice, and 2 tablespoons of Weber Kick ’N Chicken Seasoning in a zip-top bag or sealable glass container. Add chicken and shake. Then place the chicken on a grill that’s heated to medium. Baste with sauce during the last few minutes of cooking.

Sear your greens.

Instead of serving up a soggy salad, brush chunks of iceberg lettuce, firm romaine lettuce leaves or whole Little Gem lettuce with oil, sprinkle with Dash Garlic & Herb Seasoning Blend or Dash Everything But the Salt Seasoning Blend, and place on a grill heated to low. When the lettuce is charred—this will take just a minute or two—flip and grill for another minute. Then drizzle with a squeeze of lemon or lime and serve, or top with grilled chicken or salmon for a hearty main dish. (Trust us: Your family and guests will be wowed!)

Cooking for a crowd?

We suggest skipping the filet mignon. Instead, marinate less expensive cuts of meat like flank, skirt or hanger steak with Weber Black Peppercorn Marinade Mix or Weber Southern Whiskey Marinade Mix. Marinating adds flavor, tenderness and moisture to these budget picks, so your wallet and your guests will thank you!

Shake up your sides.

Potato and pasta salads can be high in carbs. Swap in Green Giant Riced Riced Veggies Cauliflower for potatoes to create a lighter version of traditional “potato” salad, or use it in place of pasta for a newfangled “pasta” salad that everyone can feel good about eating. If you or your loved ones are watching their sodium intake, replace the salt in both summer sides with salt-free Dash Original Blend or the fine-grained Dash Table Blend, a full-bodied mix of more than 20 different spices.
